Overview

One of Nepal’s best kept secrets is Bardia National Park. It is located in the Terai region.  It is also Nepal’s largest national park and wilderness area. Its protected  968 km² of sal forest, grassland, savannah and riverine forest. On the west side it’s bordered by the Karnali River. It’s bisected by the Babai River in the Bardiya District. The foot of the Siwalik Hills marks the northern boundary of the park. Bardia National Park is among one of the less explored wildlife sanctuary where wilderness and challenges are found in abundance. It was a wildlife reserve once but now has turned into a wildlife reserve. It is an unspoiled and untouched habitat of wildlife. This holds a pride of treasuring largest population of Bengal tigers in Nepal. It also provides shelter to some endangered species of animals.

The Himalayan Thar, a rarest animal and the only living member of genus Hemi Tragus was recorded as seen in this reserve. Besides, a distant cousin of a wild goat which was confirmed as extinct animal was spotted here. This also proves how well preserved this reserve is. There might still be many unique species of animals stored out in this national park; and who knows you might be the lucky one to spot them? We can find more than 400 species of birds. Including the endangered Bengal Floridian and Sarus crane, Bardiya is a paradise for bird lovers.
